 We are blessed to have the River Stour on our doorstep - a place where we can connect with nature, away from the hustle and bustle of the town and our busy lives. It is a place where we can enjoy the outdoors, right on the doorstep. Whether it’s walking the dog, canoeing on the water or wildlife watching, the Stour Valley has something for everyone.

The River Stour offers excellent fishing. You will need a licence to fish There are numerous clubs and fisheries.

Paddle boarding and canoeing

Both popular things to do along the River; a great way of seeing the river from a completely different perspective. A licence is required .

There are many locations along the Stour Valley for our four legged friends to enjoy. Check out the map below.

Whilst dogs are welcome along the Stour Valley, some areas are protected for wildlife and livestock. Be mindful to keep your dog on a lead where necessary.

Nature and wildlife

Kingfisher barn is a venue run in partnership between BCP Council and the Parks Foundation. They host activities to raise awareness and understanding of wildlife and cultural heritage.

Nature Tots is a programme introducing young people to wildlife and heritage conservation.

There a many places to visit along the Stour Valley, and routes onto the Stour Valley Way which weaves up the Stour Valley. It is accessible by foot and some sections are accessible by bike and horseback. Browse the map below to find out more.

Flood Alerts

The River Stour regularly floods and will break its banks during periods of high rainfall. Please check conditions on the Environment Agency’s Live flood map before visiting .
