A place for nature
The Stour Valley is home to an array of wildlife, yet it has been degraded as a result of human activities over the last 70 years. There are many examples where individuals and organisations are taking steps to restore and protect nature.
National Trust Kingston Lacy
Kingston Lacy mansion sits on a vast 8,500 acre estate which runs along 12km of the River Stour. The National Trust aims to restore nature across the whole estate and along the river, where they are working with others to enhance biodiversity, improve water quality and reduce flood risk through wetland restoration.
Financing nature recovery
In June 2024 the Stour Valley Partnership was awarded funding to explore nature recovery practices in agricultural land along the river.
Creating space for Nature – The Ferals
The Ferals is a 250 acre farm just north of Spetisbury with the ambition to make cultivate woodland, ponds and grassland as a haven for wildlife.
A place for people
More case studies will be added to the website soon, demonstrating how people are connecting with nature and accessing the River Stour.
